This week I drove a Panamera for a day which has a touch panel and I definitely prefer the controls on my Macan. For example, to switch the A/C off I had to make several different presses (can't remember which ones now but more work compared to the single physical button on the Macan).

Most of my working life (44 years) I’ve spent designing military optical equipment for land forces (night vision goggles, thermal sniper sights, gun linked vehicle sights) all over the world and I can say that every single user wanted single function switch controls. Anything that had multiple functions or required menu driven control was dismissed out of hand. Mission critical controls.

Now I realise that this sort of equipment is different to vehicle controls given the circumstances that they operate in, but anything that requires more visual attention takes your eyes away from the road. Which I don’t think is good.
