I've just driven 1600 miles to Seville and whilst the seats are firm the ventilation and having a cool airstream on your back and bum make it well worth it. Just like heating it is a personal choice. For the dozen days a year you use it, it adds another layer of luxury to the car.
That's good to hear, firm but still comfortable (I'm guessing comfortable, cause you haven't said they're not after a 1600 miles drive?)

Comfort is always a personal opinion. I'm 17 stone so compress the squab more than a 12 stone lightweight would. I also have a chronic coccyx injury so after every 2-3 hours would stop for a loo break and be fine again for the next stint.
I can't remember the seats being any firmer than the demo S3 I had for a couple of hours.
