So the wait is almost over and tomorrow I will be collecting my new car. Really looking forward to it! Been offered the ceramic coating and back to invoice insurance again. Would be really helpful if I could get some quick feedback on what kind of money people have got these items down to? I'm currently being offered £660 and £1,279 (for 3 years cover) respectively.

Congrats on your new car, and looking forward to a pic or two! 👍

Afraid I can’t help on the ceramic coating, however, I would recommend contacting ALA Insurance for the GAP insurance, as they are MUCH cheaper than your dealer quote, as I paid £213.45 for a 3 year back to Invoice Plus policy last December.

If the OPC staff are going to be doing the ceramic coating....then do not let them! If they are outsourcing, then ask with whom.
Use an acredited specialist like GTECHNIQ. Do a web search for dealers in your area.

Don't bother with the insurance. As previously said, ALA cost me about £200 for 3 years when I bought mine. Only winners there are the OPC with £1,000 commission.

If it is the Gtechnig Platinum treatment, which at £660 I suspect it is, I understand the garage have committed to Gtechnig only to use staff that have been trained by Gtechnig. A full detail with lots of precoating preparation will typically cost £1000 or more

Hey Cliff
Make sure you get pics up mate as I'm swinging towards crayon now.
As previously said I'd check it was the actual Gtech guys doing the job.
I think there is a Gtech place In Renfrew so could be them doing it but that must be a bit short notice if you are picking it up tomorrow.
Regards the GAP-go onto moneysupermarket and get a quote and ask them to match it.

Unlikely the g technic is put on by anyone but the dealer staff

The paint won’t be prepped it will just had it added on top which is not ideal

I did get it thrown in for free on both of ours so let them do it. Chucked the 911 back at them because they did a crap job.

It’s been ok since and should be fine on crayon but if it wasn’t free I would have taken it to a proper detailer and paid them but I just couldn’t be bothered.

Hi.

Just to let you know that we offer a 12 month product called Total Loss Protection. Whilst it's not exactly the same as your traditional GAP insurance we feel for some customers it can make a cost effective alternative.

Please feel free to take a look if you wish.

Definitely do not get the dealer to ceramic coat unless it’s free. It will be a crap job and they don’t have the hours/are allowed the hours to prep the car properly.

Any local established detailer should be able to provide a full prep + ceramic coat for between £500-750

My Macan was ceramic coated by the dealer from new, when I bought the car at two years old I had it removed and done properly. The dealer used some unknown brand that was a bugger to remove, it was applied over the paint swirls and not prepped properly. My Gtechniq coating took 5 days and £1100 to complete, partly due to having to remove the dealer rubbish first. For £660 I doubt it gtechniq and they certainly will not prep the paintwork correctly.

Definitely worth doing at a proper detailer outfit though.
