RGS wrote: Tue Feb 06, 2024 2:11 pm Had a shock this morning from my insurer "Direct line" to say they would not offer to renew my policy. When I enquired why, they said my vehicle (Gen 2 Turbo) does not comply with their criteria, plus no doubt my age ( just turned 79), although that wasn't mentioned. I did say it wasn't a JLR and didn't have keyless entry, but after 62 years of claim free motoring and a clean licence it came as a shock.

A bit of shopping around and I came up with M&S who offered their superior fully-comprehensive insurance just a fraction under £1K at the best price on the web for me.

It's no fun getting old !
I'm also with Direct Line and will be 79 when the policy comes up for renewal in August. How old is your car? Mine was three years old when I joined Direct Line and will be four in August.
Mine is just over 4 years old
Guess I'll find out in late July whether I get the same shock as you.

This chimes with a conversation I had yesterday. A friend who drove a minibus for a local old folks transport charity had to stop after 17 years because he was 80 due to the insurance.

And one I had with an 86yr old neighbour whose husband recently died, after a short illness, aged 90. She was rather shocked to discover he had been paying over £2k a year to insure their 58-plate Prius!

Slightly off topic but still insurance, my no frills house insurance is due on the 23rd and received my renewal with an increase from £131 to £698! 🙈

Managed to get down via comparison site to £284.

Just another illustration of insurance hikes across the board 😡

Neil, similar thing happened to my late Mum when she was 80 she had to stop driving for the WRVS, mind you it probably saved some residents lives🤔

IIRC Q me Happy is an Aviva online brand.

I am a young 73+ living in Gloucestershire, my insurance went up c90% from £290 to £557, I decided to stay with Churchill (who are owned by Direct Line) as could not find anything close on any comparison sites, even Churchill wanted in excess of £700 if I took out a new policy so I didn't have much evidence available to try and barter them down further!!
My base Macan was £225 last year, they then did a pro rata adjustment adding a further £65 when I swapped to the 'S'

I'm actually looking forwards to a potentially massive reduction (well a few quid anyway) in our multi car policy when we take delivery of our new Macans (an S and a GTS) in September; given that we both drive Range Rover Sports at the moment and could only find one broker daft enough to insure us this year! Also I'm 60 this year and obviously a hugely responsible driver....
