Hi Guys,

I own a 2020/2021 Macan GTS and it’s coming up to 3 years with 22k miles on the clock! Porsche Reading have said I need to have my break pads checked and possibly replaced! To do so they want £2400! Is that right? They’re just the basic spec ones and It sounds extortionate!

I also have a crack in my rear right break light in which they want to charge £1400 to have it replaced!

Again is that right or should I look at going somewhere else like Northway?

Thank you in advance!

Omg that’s extortionate, an indie would charge a fraction of that. If this is typical OPC pricing I might not renew my extended warranty and self insure next yr

Yes you're right, that's extortionate for 'basic spec' discs and pads, by which I assume you mean they are not the more expensive surface coated or ceramic discs. I would certainly go the indie route in that case, although if you want to use Reading, get a quote from an independent and ask them to match it. If they won't you know what to do!

BTW, maybe it was your auto correct spell checker, and excuse me for pointing this out, but 'Brakes' is not spelt correctly in your post.

Sorry, yes it was Autocorrect!

Thanks for your help and it was exactly what I expected. I've just spoken to an independent Porsche Dealership (Northway) who will do the inspection and full replacement if needed for £1100 including VAT and labour! Subsequently told the OPC to fly a Kite!

At 22k miles there should still be plenty left on the pads, wouldn’t do anything until the pad wear sensor signals change. Will then still have over 500 miles of normal motoring. Wait until this happens that’s what the sensors are there for.

Yep this. It's upselling and basically fishing for £££ in my opinion

Seems like every time my vehicle (regardless of make) goes in for a service there is always something 'extra'. Brakes are the usual culprit and even on my wife's Aygo they said the same. 35k miles later and they're still fine and no warning lights yet
Mercedes wanted over a hundred quid to clear the leaves from the rad grille!! I rejected then checked myself when I got home to find about half a dozen leaves behind the bumper. Quick blast with a blower - sorted

Surely depends on OP’s driving style!

I don’t brake for corners so my pads and discs usually last longer :D

But is the quote for pads front and rear or are discs required as well? I just had front and rear pads and discs on my 2017 turbo replaced for just under £2,500, but I believe they are just regular brakes. Changed at 45,000 miles and certainly the first change of discs.
