Long-term reader; first-time poster! Having placed my deposit in September last year, my Macan GTS is due to complete build on 28 June (spec: https://www.porschecode.com/PR3XU1M6).

My conundrum is that I want to take delivery ASAP, but I know there are good arguments for deferring registration until the 73 reg on 1 September. I don't particularly care about the reg itself, but I would need to consider whether delaying the registration may affect the car's value down the line. Would be grateful for others' views!

The value you'll derive from driving your new toy will exceed any lost due to registration date. Go for it!

Yes, get it asap. The reg will make negligible difference in future. Life's too short..........

I personally think that the new registration year Ie 24 makes more difference than the mid year change, once you get a couple of years down the line, as psychologically 23 and 73 are both 2023.

But that’s my uneducated view. Just crack on and enjoy it would be my view, anything could happy to used car prices over the next 3/4 years with the state of the economy, environmental legislation changes etc!

I get that they run over different years in totality, my point was they both have a reference to 2023....... If someone is that bothered, they will look at the month of first registration, but I really don't think that will make all that much difference, say August or Sept 23.......

A 73 that you could refer to as Jan 24 might make more of a difference??

When it comes to trade-in time the condition, mileage and spec will have much more relevance to its value then than 23 or 73.

So go for it ASAP and enjoy. ;)

Serious case of over thinking this. It doesn’t matter when a car is registered because in two years time it is two years old, whether that’s in December or January.
Mileage is far more important to used price. There is a 2018 991 on the website at 700 miles - it’s £98k (more than when new?) and it’s five years old!!

IMO, it will make a modest difference if you are keeping the car for just a few years. But if it’s a longer term keeper will make no difference at all.

But as said by others, crack on and take delivery and enjoy a bit more summer motoring.

We have a Boxster due for build completion on 10 July and we’ll take delivery when it arrives.

As an aside, finalised our Macan GTS spec yesterday and we have gone with Gentian. Build date is 2nd week of September.
Current fleet:
2023 Macan GTS
2018 BMW M6 GC
2023 Boxster GTS

Departed:
2017 Macan Turbo
