Wow - thank you all for answering. Lots of experience and lots of very good points. This quote sums it up perfectly and I was open to admit in my initial post that there could be badge envy at play here.

I can afford a GTS and I have previous form for buying a new car and then trading it in with the same dealer because I regretted compromising. However at 10k more it needs a bit of reflection and as I am new to the marque I was looking for some wisdom/honest feedback. It seems I am not alone with this dilemma for a Gen 3.

Will probably be back once I have confirmed an order - thanks for all the advice. Head says S, heart says GTS.

I wouldn’t want an xr3i anyway !!!

Welcome OP

S will be fine for you.

For both our old 981 and current Macan I just specced them to GTS spec pretty much because the GTS wasn’t available at order

Loved both of them !

Well I was in a similar position. Ordered an s and have spent the last 3 weeks trying to get it to look how I want. Whilst I didn’t want to use pcp, the slightly murky looking future of petrol cars has left me wondering if that option of giving it back lessens the risk should petrol vehicles plummet in value as we get closer to ice cut off. Then I found out it was £50 a month cheaper so I’ve joined the gts waiting list this afternoon and I’m suddenly at complete ease

To me the GTS thing smacks of the XR3i, but for more money. Only difference is an XR3i looked different to a standard Escort, whereas a GTS looks exactly the same as an S, except for those 2 letters on the back that seem extremely valuable to some. Its your money, so spend it however you want, or however Porsche marketing people want you to.
Which Macan models have you driven for at least an hour and on a variety of roads?

One thing I do like about my 2019 Gen 2S is the gearing 7th of 40 mph per 1000 revs. it suits my use of the car as a refined long distance cruiser.

Gen 2 GTS and Turbo are the same but lower ratio from memory at 35 mph per 1000. Somewhere on this computer, I stored the 7 gear ratios as mph per 1000 revs for all three Gen 2 models. the lower ratios for all three models where the same but due to lower 7th gearing the higher gears were closer in GTS and Turbo than S.

I have not seen figures for Gen 3 S and GTS but I suspect they maybe same as the Gen 2 cars but could be tweaked which might partly explain acceleration figure changes or not. There is still a lot of details we do know about the Gen 3 cars

Cheaper?? What GFV were you given for the GTS? Have an S on order but if the GTS is holding that much more in value, might be worth a look in….

Yes, E39 series BMWs, one of the best models they ever made across all variants with even the 6 cyl SE described by Autocar as all the car anyone would ever need.

I had a new 535d as soon as they were launched. It was a good car but for a long time people said the e39 was still the one.
